Cannot ping computer on home network

This is an issue as part of our codebase at work needs to run the following python: socket.gethostbyname(socket.gethostname()) and it fails because my computer seems to have forgotten who it is. I can successfully run ping localhost and ping 127.0.0.1. I’ve tried the following: Rebooting. Switching off the Firewall.

Turned off the firewall on the laptop and still can't see it on any of the other machines on the network. I don't see it from the Entire Network either. I can still ping it but can't access it either by \\[computer name] or \\[IP address]. I can see all the other machines when I browse the network FROM the laptop though This is strange
